Dictation
Press ⌃⌥⌘D, speak, and the text appears where your cursor is: in a chat, an email, an editor or Terminal.
There are two ways to use the shortcut:
- Tap ⌃⌥⌘D: Bandje listens until you press Return, or ⌃⌥⌘D again. The Return itself is not sent to the app.
- Hold ⌃⌥⌘D: Bandje listens while you hold the keys and pastes when you let go.
Press Esc to cancel. The menu bar icon turns orange while Bandje listens, with the time next to it. One dictation can last up to five minutes; in the last 30 seconds the time blinks.
Pasting
The text is always on the clipboard. To paste it for you, Bandje needs permission to send a keystroke (⌘V): choose Turn On Automatic Pasting… in the menu, or go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and turn on Bandje. Without it, you paste with ⌘V yourself.
macOS tells a running Bandje about this permission only after a restart. Just turned it on? Choose Restart Bandje for Automatic Pasting in the menu, or Restart Bandje in More Settings.
If you hear a short sound instead of a paste, a password field or another app has turned on secure input (Terminal's Secure Keyboard Entry, a password manager). macOS then blocks the paste; the text is on the clipboard, so press ⌘V yourself.
Nothing you dictate is saved.
